Hernia Repair — Open & Laparoscopic

Hernias are one of the most common surgical conditions we treat. KG Speciality Centre offers all hernia repair techniques — from day-case laparoscopic repairs to complex incisional hernia reconstructions — using modern mesh materials that provide durable, long-lasting results.

🩺

Inguinal Hernia

Laparoscopic TEP (Total Extra-Peritoneal) repair is our standard — mesh placed without entering the abdominal cavity. Day surgery in most cases.

Most Common
🔬

Umbilical & Paraumbilical Hernia

Laparoscopic or open repair with mesh reinforcement. Day surgery for smaller defects. Recurrence rate <1% with mesh.

Laparoscopic
🧪

Incisional Hernia

Component separation technique and biological mesh for large abdominal wall defects. Complex reconstructions managed by our specialist team.

Complex
🔍

Hiatus Hernia

Laparoscopic repair of stomach herniation through the diaphragm, combined with fundoplication for reflux symptoms.

Keyhole

Strangulated Hernia

Emergency surgery for hernias with compromised blood supply. 24/7 availability with expedited theatre access to prevent bowel ischaemia.

Femoral Hernia

Laparoscopic TAPP or TEP repair preferred. Higher strangulation risk than inguinal — early repair advised for all femoral hernias.

Proctology & Anorectal Surgery

Anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas are extremely common yet often undertreated due to patient embarrassment. At KG Speciality Centre, our dedicated proctology clinic offers sensitive, confidential and effective surgical treatment.

Stapled haemorrhoidopexy (PPH) is our preferred technique for Grade III–IV haemorrhoids — less painful than conventional haemorrhoidectomy with faster recovery. Grade II haemorrhoids are managed with rubber band ligation in the outpatient clinic. Conventional Milligan–Morgan haemorrhoidectomy performed for Grade IV disease where appropriate.

  • Stapled PPH — day case
  • Rubber band ligation — outpatient
  • Return to work: 3–5 days
  • Less pain vs conventional excision

KG Speciality Centre offers the full range of fistula-in-ano treatments including Video-Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT), Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract (LIFT) and conventional fistulotomy — selecting the technique based on fistula type and proximity to the sphincter to preserve continence.

  • VAAFT — minimally invasive camera
  • LIFT procedure for high fistulas
  • Seton placement for complex cases
  • Continence preservation priority

Lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) is the definitive surgical treatment for chronic anal fissure unresponsive to medical management. The procedure takes under 30 minutes, is performed as a day case and has a success rate exceeding 95%. Botulinum toxin injection is offered as a non-surgical alternative.

  • Day case — 30 minutes
  • Success rate: 95%+
  • Botox alternative available
  • Return to work: 3–5 days

KG Speciality Centre uses the Karydakis flap and Bascom cleft lift techniques for pilonidal sinus — significantly reducing recurrence rates compared to simple excision and open healing. Minimally invasive sinusectomy (EPSIT) is available for primary and recurrent cases.

  • Karydakis / Bascom flap techniques
  • EPSIT for minimally invasive option
  • Recurrence rate <5% with flap
  • Hospital stay: Day case to 1 day

Yes. Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery is extremely safe and is now the standard of care for the vast majority of general surgical procedures. At KG Speciality Centre, over 95% of elective procedures are performed laparoscopically. Complication rates are consistently lower than for open surgery, and patients experience significantly less pain and a faster return to normal activity.
Most patients having laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) go home the same day or the following morning. You will be able to eat and drink normally within a few hours of surgery. Most people return to desk work within 5–7 days and to all normal activities within 2 weeks.
Not always immediately. Asymptomatic inguinal hernias in men may be observed. However, hernias do not resolve on their own and carry a small risk of becoming strangulated (when the blood supply to the hernia contents is cut off) β€” which is a surgical emergency. We generally advise repair for symptomatic hernias, all femoral hernias (higher strangulation risk) and hernias causing discomfort or lifestyle limitations.
Laparoscopic hernia repair is a day-case procedure in most cases. You can walk the same day and return to light work within 1–2 weeks. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4–6 weeks. Open repair has a slightly longer recovery β€” typically 2–4 weeks before returning to work.
Rubber band ligation is performed in the outpatient clinic with minimal discomfort and no anaesthesia for Grade I–II haemorrhoids. Stapled haemorrhoidopexy (PPH) for Grade III–IV disease is performed under spinal anaesthesia and is significantly less painful than conventional haemorrhoidectomy β€” most patients describe discomfort rather than pain and return to normal activity within 3–5 days.
Thyroid surgery (thyroidectomy) is performed through a small incision in the lower neck. At KG Speciality Centre we use intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) as standard to protect the recurrent laryngeal nerve β€” the main nerve to the voice box. The risk of permanent voice change is under 1% in experienced hands. Parathyroid autofluorescence technology helps us identify and preserve the tiny parathyroid glands. Most patients go home the same or following day.
Severe abdominal pain β€” especially if accompanied by fever, vomiting, inability to pass gas/stool, or a hard rigid abdomen β€” requires urgent medical assessment. Please proceed to KG Speciality Centre's Emergency Department immediately. Do not delay β€” conditions like appendicitis and bowel perforations can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
